Presentations on the impact of institutions on governance approaches to residential heat decarbonisation in the UK and the Netherlands

Anna Devenish presented preliminary findings of the Going Dutch? project at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs’ Climate and Energy Week on 15 June 2022 and at the International Conference on Energy Research & Social Science on 23 June 2022. The talks discussed how the wider system of institutions – including economic institutions (varieties of capitalism) and political institutions as well as administrative decentralisation – has affected the Dutch and British governance approaches to the heat transition. This included a discussion on reconciling powers and responsibilities across different levels of governance, citizen engagement, managing a mix of market and planning interventions and managing uncertainty about technology options and associated costs. The slides for the presentations can be found here.
